On Friday, Portland joined the ranks of Paris and New York City bakeries for Macaron Day... Or should I say, jour du macaron.
Naturally I felt that it was my civic duty to investigate and report back on behalf of The Paper Airplane. Launched by Nuvrei on March 20th, Macaron Day PDX brought together the Portland's finest bakeries to create a "macaron crawl" across the city. The 15 bakery and patisserie participants included: Nuvrei Bakery, Farina Bakery, Maurice, Ken's Artisan Bakery, and more. As if sampling the girly, Parisian meringue confections weren't enough, Macaron Day gathered donations for Meals on Wheels People, a non-profit that serves 5,000 meals a day to seniors in need.
If Macaron Day isn't a reason to treat yoself
then I don't know what is.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite when each Farina macaron is the perfect ratio of crispy to cloud-like fluffy goodness. If I had to pick though, the new Orange Cardamom would most definitely be a contender. Other highlights include Honey Pecan and Meyer Lemon.
Farina is a gem of a bakery. It's equal parts a funky, SE Hawthorne stop and a sweetly charming place for a fun pastry outing. The service was lovely and I will definitely be back to try the rest of the mouthwatering array of treats at Farina.
