Portland Guide: The New Year's Resolution Kure is a Piece of Kale

I think I had three Extra Mile smoothies in one week when I discovered Kure Juice Bar...

Despite having a huge sweet tooth, I've always been a pretty healthy eater at home but it's not always easy... Especially when the urge to bake strikes. One of my 2015 resolutions is to get back into a daily practice of yoga and clean eating. Being that it's January and that Kure is one of my top-5 Portland obsessions, here's an ode to the place that makes eating healthy the tastiest choice yet.

Kure's juices and smoothies are my kryptonite. Not only are they delicious, they're so good for you and the green Extra Mile smoothie is something of a legend. At Kure, the combination of coconut milk yogurt, coconut meat, kale, almond butter, coconut water, honey, and magic turn your everyday smoothie into one that has a PDX cult following. Somehow it tastes like chocolate. I'm not kidding. (Seriously, the Yelp and Urbanspoon reviews are glowing.) Portland Monthly graciously provided a DIY Extra Mile recipe [here] in case you would like to try one at home. You can discover nirvana via the Extra Mile at the source by stopping at the modern, sleek shop on SW or the funky juice shack on SE Hawthorne. Both locations are equally great, but I've always found better luck with the parking at the Hawthorne location. Kure also serves their crowd-pleasing smoothies and juices seasonally at the MODA Center.

The fresh-pressed juices are excellent, too. When I head into Kure for my afternoon Extra Mile, l'll usually double up on a green juice for the morning. I'm all about the Staycation. It's tastes fresh and citrusy, and it's a perfect pick-me-up. But then there are the açai bowls... The Bowl of the Gods is one of the most popular are for excellent reason: a generous bowl full of blended Sambazon açai berries, banana, strawberries, Vanilla VEGA protein, peanut butter, and vanilla hemp milk topped with local seasonal berries, bananas, sliced almonds, goji berries, and hemp seed granola before it's sprinkled with shredded coconut, agave nectar and cinnamon. Combine the Bowl of the Gods post a good yoga class and I would be in heaven.

Well, there you have it.

Kure Juice Bar smoothies and juices taste amazing and they're good for you. Cheers to making New Year's resolutions a piece of cake kale.
